Long term care (eldercare) refers to a broad range of supportive medical, personal and social services for people who are aging or unable to provide for their own needs for an extended period of time. This need for care from others may be caused by accident, illness, dementia, stroke, depression or frailty.
The Maine Care Planning Council lists companies and individual providers on this website (careformaine.org) who help families deal with the crisis and burden of long term care. Care planning is the process of preparing for and funding long term care.
